Auto Shutdown Manager system requirements
Plan the ASDM Server and clients for physical or virtual Windows environments. Core power-management operation does not require a database.
These requirements apply to current releases based on Microsoft .NET 4.x.
Operating systems
Supported Windows platforms
ASDM Server and ASDM Clients support both 32-bit and 64-bit Windows installations where the required .NET version is available.
Windows clients
Windows 7, Windows 8 and 8.1, Windows 10 and Windows 11 are supported.
The ASDM Server may also run on a Windows client operating system. This is intended for small installations and remains subject to the connection limits of that Windows edition.
Windows Server
Windows Server 2012 R2, 2016, 2019, 2022 and 2025 are supported.
Windows Server Core is fully supported. Run AutoShutdownManager.exe StartGui when you need to display the graphical user interface.
Runtime and architecture
.NET 4.x and unrestricted virtualization
Microsoft .NET
Current ASDM releases require Microsoft .NET 4.x. For upgrade planning: releases before 5.5 used .NET 3.5; new installations from the 5.5 release line use .NET 4.x, and release 5.8.1.2 removed .NET 3.5 support completely.
Physical and virtual systems
ASDM runs on physical hardware and on virtual machines without product-specific virtualization restrictions. The selected Windows guest operating system and .NET runtime must meet the requirements on this page.
Optional data services
No database is required for core operation
A database is optional and can be used for client logs, IT asset management, endpoint runtime statistics and other central analysis.
SQLite — included default
Local SQLite support is included and available as the default database option. It is recommended for pilots and smaller environments because no separate database server is required.
Microsoft SQL Server — optional
Microsoft SQL Server 2012 or newer is supported, including SQL Server Express. Use it when deployment scale, central database operation or existing SQL administration makes it the better fit.
